July 2013

Its a month of summer programs !!IN NEW MEXICO :SUMMER 2013 !DANCING EARTH CREATIONS is proud to offer the second annual Summer Indigenous Dance Arts Intensive, in partnership with National Dance Institute of New Mexico, fro July 25 -August 2nd. Last years intensive covered many different dance styles to give students an experience of diversity,  attracting 15 dancers from across the USA and Canada, many of whom were selected for company apprenticeships and fall performances with the company. This year we will select a recipient for International Guest Fellowship for full scholarship , as an ambassador for cultural exchange, to bring the summer teachers to his/her home community for global strengthening of culture through arts.Director Rulan Tangen offers insight into her vision for this summer's institute: "This year's summer training will be an immersion in DANCING EARTH's distinctive movement aesthetic and philosophies. Mornings will begin in the studio with a warmup that builds the imagination and inner dreamscape. This will be followed by learning core DANCING EARTH repertory which requires a dynamic integration of mind and body. Students will coordinate for meal preparation for midday meal, with donations from local Farmer Market and La Montanita Marketplace Co-Op. After lunch, we will work outdoors in various locations, with sensitivity to landscape and environment as creative impulses for dance and sound. These exercises will engender qualities of listening, observing, absorbing, and responding; balancing individual expression with group dynamic; and being aware of one's relationship with the larger community and the land. All of these qualities will culminate in a performance ritual. There will be special sessions for cultural exchange - sharing stories, language, and songs - to grow the intertribal exchange that was so appreciated by last year's summer institute participants. Students will also learn DANCING EARTH's innovative Indigenous contemporary dance form, and have opportunities to learn choreographic repertory. Please contact Rulan@dancingearth.org for application and tuition information.Indoor classes will be held at National Dance Institute of NewMexico, and Yoga Moves Studio, and landscape classes will be held in dried riverbed on Museum Hill between Museum of Folk Art, Museum of Indian Arts and Cultures, and Santa Fe Desert Botanical Garden.““Feeling so inspired and motivated !” - Danni Okemaw ,  Canada"Through our dances I discovered a way in which I could connect mind, body, and spirit. " - Lupita Salazar, New Mexico “I learned how to be in-tune with my body and the people around me.
