SEPTEMBER NEWSIn the Bay :After an amazing June summer program - fall begins with Jacoh Cortes starting up a new semester of Cuicacalli Escuela de Danza at the Brava Theater in San Francisco. Jacoh's Veracruz roots were highlighted by the Cuicacalli Compania hosted guest artist Jairo Garcia of Jalisco for the San Francisco Son Jarocho 2015 concert at Brava in late August , click here to view ! http://youtu.be/-Rn2cgCJQs0Cuicacalli also made history this year, as the first time ever for a youth group to win CARNAVAL's best of festival award ! Amazing work Jacoh and Ariane , and all the young dancers, musicians and parents for this proud moment !In the Southwest :Fall begins with Rulan co-teaching during the month of September for a new course : DEVISED PERFORMANCE : Indigenous Innovations course for the new Performing Arts department at IAIA, along with Dept chair Daniel Banks, and musician Ehren Kee Natay in Santa Fe NMSept 7-9, Rulan was blessed to attend a special gathering sponsored by the New Enchantment Preservation of Nature, The Tracking Project and the Mother Earth Restoration Trust. Santa Fe community welcomed the The Four Peoples of the Earth (Wiwa, Kunkuamo, Arhuaco and Kogi- one elder pictured above ), from "The Heart of the World", La Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia, South America, who have been mandated by Spiritual Authority to come to our world and share their message to Restore the Balance of OUR MOTHER EARTH!( image of Natalie with Cami Leonard at Ghost Ranch )Natalie Benally says " This Fall, I will be helping Fort Wingate High School, a Bureau of Indian Education boarding school located near Gallup, New Mexico expand their newly formed performing arts program by collaborating with Dancing Earth and others to bring the power of theatre, dance and music to this remote area. Wingate High School is a primarily Native American populated school, who is striving to provide more artistic avenues for their youth to explore. Sadly, stress, vicarious trauma and lateral oppression are also in the mix and these wear on the body, mind and spirit; often resulting in burn out. One solution is SELF CARE. The Self Care training is provided for three reasons:To offer information on how stress impacts the body;To offer self care techniques to address stress and burnout;To offer self care solutions for employees to take back to their workplaces.This interactive two-day training will leave participants feeling relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated and ready to return to work more positive, productive and proactive. “We can only give what we have.” And if we are depleted, that is what we are giving. Regardless of where you work- at home, tribe or organization, we hope to see you at this informative and inspiring training session!
