This special 60 min performance was recently selected to represent First Nations of North America at the Riddu Riddu Festival in Norway. Created organically from powerful seeds of ancestral knowledge shared by inter-tribal elders, dances emerge from Hanska Luger’s Everything Anywhere sculptural installation in a cycle of rebirth and renewal.*Donation-based events are vital to artists; not only do they help support CCA exhibitions and programming, but specifically DANCING EARTH. This award winning group was named by Dance Magazine as “One of the Top 25 to Watch,” and were recipients of the National Museum of American Indian’s 2010 Expressive Arts Award. Their mission is to support Indigenous dance and related arts, to encourage and revitalize awareness of bio-cultural diversity through artistic expression for the education and wellness of all peoples.DANCING EARTH is committed to mentorship of emerging artists, providing opportunities for Indigenous employment across all areas of dance production, education, and administration, and to develop the next generation of Indigenous dance. DANCING EARTH gathers Indigenous collaborators, including Nations of Blackfoot, Metis, Coushatta, Ixil and Tzeltil Maya, Papanga, Cambiva, Yaqui, Purepecha, Shoshone, Dine, Tsalagi, Hopi, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, and Keresan of North Central and South America.Tangen states, “We gather as individual artists to create experimental yet elemental dances that reflect our rich cultural heritage and to explore identity as contemporary Native peoples.
