ABOUT THIS CLASS
"Hozho" is the Diné philosophy of life. It means balance and harmony in all aspects of life. The class will be centered around finding hozho in our bodies, our minds, our hearts and our spirits.

For those of us who work with and for communities, taking time to release stress, rebuild our energy and rejuvenate our minds and bodies is essential. Some of us give a lot of ourselves to our work and the time and space to be home can be used to give ourselves a bit of love and attention. We will work with movement to undo and release any stress in the body and utilize breath and sound to give intention and healing to our whole selves and to each other. This class is for all ages.

ABOUT THE PRESENTATION:
One of the ‘signature’ choreographic works by Daystar/Rosalie Jones is a dance titled “Wolf: A Transformation”. Inspired by the Anishinaabe traditional story of the wolf as the “first companion of the first man” as written by Elder Edward Benton Benai, this dance has been in turn gifted to dancer Daniel Fetecua in order to carry it forward to the people. The choreography itself is highly dependent on the magic of transformation through the use of masking. A video of the dance will be shown, following by a discussion of artistic creativity and collaboration with Hopi sculptor Timothy Talawepi who created the masks, 3-D artist Olivia Kim who sculpted the wolf head piece and dancer Daniel Fetecua.

ABOUT THIS CLASS
This hour long class invites people of all ages and abilities to build upon embodied knowledge of the previous classes, this time with a nonstop rhythmic flow based on the weight shift of walking. We start by grounding ourselves by articulating the feet, then try various rhythmic foot patterns, directions, coordinations and level changes. We counterbalance movements of the lower body with the upper body, left with right, forward and backward, past and future, bringing movement to counter isolation and celebrate our collectivity! Playlist includes tracks by Navajo DJ Randy B, Robert Mirabal.
