ABOUT THE PRESENTATION:
One of the ‘signature’ choreographic works by Daystar/Rosalie Jones is a dance titled “Wolf: A Transformation”. Inspired by the Anishinaabe traditional story of the wolf as the “first companion of the first man” as written by Elder Edward Benton Benai, this dance has been in turn gifted to dancer Daniel Fetecua in order to carry it forward to the people. The choreography itself is highly dependent on the magic of transformation through the use of masking. A video of the dance will be shown, following by a discussion of artistic creativity and collaboration with Hopi sculptor Timothy Talawepi who created the masks, 3-D artist Olivia Kim who sculpted the wolf head piece and dancer Daniel Fetecua.
