Reaching our 19th year to revise, reimagine, renew and transform. |

Sunday, June 11th 4pm CAL State East Bay Campus We recommend arriving by 3:30pm for parking and walking to the performance site. Dancing Earth warmly invites our local Bay Area community to experience amazing guest artists from our 12th Annual Summer Institute and the first one to be held here in Ohlone homelands of Hayward! Over the last ten days we have been sharing and creating, all in culmination of this performance ritual. Together we have been collaborating with the local land, trees, and water, to experience eco diversity, and explore how that is reflected in the diversity within each being, and the exchanges between us.

SUPPORT the SUMMER INSTITUTE 2023
Dancing Earth's talented cohort of peer-mentored artist-leaders are excited to announce our 12th Annual Dancing Earth Summer Institute, June 1st -12th 2023, presented in collaboration with the CSU East Bay Department of Theatre and Dance. As a powerful incubator for emerging leadership, this program places a strong emphasis on inter-cultural embodied practices for creative world-makers. With your support, we can continue our mission to nurture the next generation of leaders in the arts through a donation to Dancing Earth. Your generosity will help us to continue offering life-changing programs like the Summer Institute and create a more equitable and sustainable world through the power of dance. WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT We have selected a small number of focused artists at various stages of cultural and professional development to bring their artistry forward into powerful ways of understanding, learning, being, and transforming into the world. This year marks our first time bringing the Summer Institute to Ohlone ancestral lands, where dance and song have renewed the land since the beginning of time and will continue to do so into the infinite future. Throughout the program, participants will experience the many benefits of daily movement practice, movement for building community, movement for specific social change initiatives, and engage in community sessions to activate reciprocity. We will also explore restorative and sustainability practices, all while coming together to foster a deeper understanding of each other and our diverse cultures. And, we heartily encourage your support so we can move forward! Please consider donating to this unique and inclusive intersection of creativity, ecology, and intercultural relationship cultivation. |

Dancing Earth Creations dynamically activates our mission, to create contemporary dance and related arts through global indigenous and intercultural relationships centered in ecological and cultural diversity for creativity, health, and wellness. Founded by Artistic Director Rulan Tangen, to serve a need rarely met in the USA, DEC gives hope and opportunity to Native, mixed, global Indigenous and BIPOC talent who have been largely outside the dialogue of mainstream performance because of lack of access. DEC is an organic constellation of largely self-taught dancers, composers, costumers, filmmakers, and spoken word artists. Together, DEC artists work with community members, culture carriers, and inter-cultural elders to explore the rich diversity of ancestral heritage, contemporary identity, and relationship building, by collaborating on innovative ecologically themed performances. DEC’s work promotes environmental awareness, cultural diversity, and understanding between peoples through contemporary arts expressions. “We gather as individual artists to create experimental yet elemental dances that reflect our rich cultural heritage as contemporary global peoples. We strive to embody the unique essences of cultural perspectives by creation and renewal of artistic and cultural movement rituals. Ancient and futuristic, our dances are an elemental language of bone and blood memory in motion.” - Founding Director, Rulan Tangen |
